Kneeling Woman from The Transfiguration by Raphael.

Kneeling Woman, after The Transfiguration by Raphael

This is a Bargue copy. The image is called Kneeling Woman, and it is taken from a painting by Raphael called the The Transfiguration (1518-1520), which is housed in the Pinacoteca Vaticana of the Vatican Museum in the Vatican City. This is Raphael’s final painting. In it, the kneeling woman points to a boy whom the Apostles unsuccessfully attempt to free of his demonic possession until Jesus intervenes. This might be why she looks a bit perturbed.

The image I am copying is from the book by Charles Bargue and Jean Leon Gerome, and was stylized to teach students who copy the image light and dark shading, among other things. This copy took at least 150 hours, if not more, to complete. I used graphite pencil (2H, H, HB, B, and 2B) on 90 lb hotpress paper.
